FormFactor's record HBM-probe quarter and a semicap melt-up lifted the whole quantum-adjacent tooling and hardware stack — only IBM eased, as capital rotated into higher-beta qubit names.
FormFactor led the vertical with a +26.3% surge to $105.38, and for once the move was earnings, not just beta. FormFactor posted record Q2 revenue of $258.2 million (up 31.9% year over year) and GAAP EPS of $0.71, with DRAM probe-card revenue jumping 48.9% to $85 million on high-bandwidth-memory demand. That is the test-and-measurement chokepoint doing exactly what the quantum thesis needs it to: the same probe-card and cryogenic-characterization tooling that qualifies HBM stacks is what qualifies advanced qubit devices. The print landed into a semicap melt-up sparked by Microsoft's demand-first capex reassurance and Lam Research's blowout, which amplified every high-beta name in the tooling chain.
The only meaningful decliner was IBM, off −2.1% to $221.74 — not a stumble so much as a rotation. With its Q2 already behind it, IBM's large-cap quantum exposure was the funding source for a day that chased pure-play qubit hardware; capital moved down the risk curve, not out of the theme. It was the lone red mark of consequence in an otherwise uniformly green basket.
The qubit hardware names ran hardest: IonQ +11.8% to $35.77, Rigetti +12.4%, D-Wave +11.1%, Quantum Computing Inc. +9.9%, Infleqtion +13.0%, Quantinuum +8.9%, and Arqit +14.3%. The enabling-technology chokepoints moved with them — photonics and semicap in Applied Materials +15.0%, MKS +13.9%, Coherent +12.2%, IPG Photonics +5.8%, GlobalFoundries +6.0% and Keysight +5.4%; isotope separation in ASP Isotopes +12.4%; superconductors in American Superconductor +10.5%; and the vacuum-and-cryo layer in VAT Group's ADR +5.7%. AMD (+13.0%) and Intel (+11.3%) rounded out the compute-adjacent strength. The common thread is upstream: quantum systems are gated by the same lithography, deposition, photonics and cryogenics that gate AI silicon, and Thursday re-rated all of it at once.
The dated calendar keeps the tooling read live. GlobalFoundries reports Q2 on August 4 — its first print since standing up a dedicated Quantum Technology Solution; IonQ and ASP Isotopes on August 12; Coherent's fiscal Q4 on August 13; Keysight's fiscal Q3 on August 18; and NVIDIA on August 26. Further out, IEEE Quantum Week (QCE26) convenes in Toronto September 13–18, and floor votes on the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act are targeted before September 30 — the policy backstop under a sector that, for now, is trading on supply-chain tooling and hyperscaler capex, not federal funding.
