The quantum-computing pure-plays sold off in a cluster while only the defensive cryogenic-supply side held green.

On a session that took the whole quantum-computing complex lower, the only real green came from the cryogenic-supply side of the stack. Air Liquide's ADR (AIQUY) rose 1.8% to $40.02 — the basket's leader by default on a down day — a defensive industrial-gases name that sits on the helium-and-cryogenics chokepoint every superconducting and trapped-ion machine depends on (dilution refrigerators, liquid helium). It was less a quantum story than a flight to the supply chain's most defensive node as risk assets sold off on the day's oil-driven inflation scare.

The pure-plays took the brunt. ASP Isotopes (ASPI) fell 6.0% to $3.78, the worst in the basket, with no fresh company news since its mid-August Q2 report — a high-beta enrichment name whose Silicon-28 line feeds the isotopically-pure-substrate chokepoint for quantum and advanced chips, unwinding on the risk-off tape. The quantum-computing pure-plays fell in a tight cluster: Arqit (ARQQ) −4.9%, Quantinuum (QNT) −4.9% to $47.66, Rigetti (RGTI) −4.3% to $14.99, Quantum Computing Inc. (QUBT) −4.0%, IonQ (IONQ) −3.9% to $37.78, and D-Wave (QBTS) −3.8% to $16.54.

The photonics-and-metrology enabling layer — the chokepoint that actually gates hardware progress — sold with the semis: FormFactor (FORM) −5.2% to $95.41, MKS Instruments (MKSI) −3.8%, Applied Materials (AMAT) −3.6%, Bruker (BRKR) −3.4%, and VAT Group's ADR (VACNY) −3.3% on the vacuum side. The mega-cap anchors were comparatively firm — Alphabet (GOOGL) −1.3%, IBM −1.1%, Intel (INTC) −0.6% — a reminder that the day's selling hit speculative beta hardest, not the balance sheets funding the roadmaps.

The autumn catalyst slate is dense. IEEE Quantum Week (QCE26) runs September 13–18 in Toronto, historically a venue for hardware and error-correction disclosures. The National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act (H.R. 8462 / S. 3597) is queued for floor votes by late September — the policy chokepoint for federal funding continuity. And ASP Isotopes has guided its first commercial Silicon-28 shipments for Q3 2026, the enrichment milestone that would turn its isotope-supply thesis into revenue.
