The enabling-tech layer firmed while pure-play qubit and isotope names de-rated, with FormFactor extending its climb as ASP Isotopes led the decliners.

The tape rewarded the pick-and-shovel layer and punished the speculative front end. FormFactor (FORM) rose 3.9% to $114.18, extending a multi-session climb off the low-$90s that tracks the semiconductor test-and-metrology cycle more than any single headline; on this vertical it maps to the cryogenic and control-electronics chokepoints — the probe cards and test infrastructure that any scaled qubit-fabrication effort ultimately leans on. It was the cleanest gainer in a basket where the enabling names outperformed the platforms: IBM (IBM) added 3.4% to $239.94 on the classical-coprocessing chokepoint, and AMD rose 3.0% as the same silicon complex bid.

The laggard was ASP Isotopes (ASPI), down 9.5% to $3.82 on the isotopes-materials and helium-3 chokepoints — the enriched-isotope supply, including silicon-28, that underpins low-noise qubit substrates. The slide followed the company's inaugural Capital Markets Day in London on Sept 8 and extends a steep multi-week de-rate; the stock is down sharply over the past month with no favorable print to arrest it. It is the sharp end of the speculative isotope trade, and it moved like it.

The pure-play qubit names de-rated in sympathy. IonQ (IONQ) fell 5.8% to $38.14 and Rigetti (RGTI) dropped 3.6% to $15.24 on the qubit-fabrication and platforms chokepoints, with D-Wave (QBTS) off 3.1% to $17.12 and Arqit (ARQQ) down 4.2% to $21.64. Bruker (BRKR) was the other notable decliner, off 6.8% to $54.43 on the isotopes-materials line. The structural read is a rotation within the vertical: capital rotating out of the hardware speculatives and into the instrumentation and classical-compute layer that gets paid regardless of which modality wins.

The calendar turns active immediately. IEEE Quantum Week (QCE26) runs Sept 13–18 in Toronto, the field's largest technical gathering and a likely source of roadmap headlines. ASPI's own catalyst is near: first commercial silicon-28 shipments are guided for Q3 2026, a print that would test whether the isotope-supply thesis converts to revenue before year-end. On the policy path, floor action on the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act (H.R. 8462 / S. 3597) is expected around end-September, and the DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative's Stage C down-select — the government's read on which platforms are real — lands in December. For now the market is paying for the shovels, not the mine.
