Test, metrology and vacuum names rode the memory-capex bid while Coherent led the enabling-photonics rung lower on profit-taking.

FormFactor (FORM) led the vertical, up 5.6% to $126.01, carried by the day's semiconductor capital-equipment rally rather than a company release. With 2026 wafer-fab-equipment spend projected to a record ~$135B on memory and HBM expansion, the tools-and-test complex bid up broadly; FormFactor's probe cards and cryogenic test systems are the measurement chokepoint that gates characterization of both advanced logic and qubit devices, so the name trades as a proxy for that spend. It edged a cluster of enabling-hardware peers to the top of the board.

Coherent (COHR) was the laggard, down 3.5% to $310.39, giving back gains after back-to-back winning sessions in data-center photonics and one day after launching its PhotonLink integrated-optics platform (Sept 21) for co-packaged and near-packaged optics. There was no negative catalyst — record recent revenue and margins remain intact — so the move reads as profit-taking in a hot group. Coherent's lasers and optical components sit on the photonics chokepoint that underpins quantum networking and interconnect, making it the vertical's most liquid read on that rung.

The broader tape favored the "picks-and-shovels" enabling layer over the pure plays. The vacuum, cryogenics and materials rung firmed: VAT Group's ADR (VACNY) +4.5%, Atlas Copco's ADR (ATLKY) +3.9%, Silex (SILXY) +3.3%, American Superconductor (AMSC) +3.3%, and Agilent (A) +3.3% to $167.26. The listed quantum-computing names, by contrast, were muted and mixed: IonQ (IONQ) +0.6% to $40.74, Rigetti (RGTI) roughly flat at $16.52, D-Wave (QBTS) −0.8% to $17.56, Quantum Computing (QUBT) +1.3%, and Infleqtion (INFQ) +0.7% — a session where the money went to the hardware supply chain, not the algorithm-and-qubit end.

The catalysts ahead are legislative and program-driven. The National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act (H.R. 8462 / S. 3597) still awaits floor action, the funding backbone for the whole field. ASP Isotopes has guided first commercial silicon-28 shipments for Q3 — the isotopically pure substrate that gates spin-qubit fidelity. DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative moves from Stage B to a Stage C downselect in the November window, and Q2B26 Chicago (Dec 8–10) is the next industry marker. Each is a demand or validation signal for the enabling-hardware rung that led today.
