The quantum-compute basket sold off with the rate-driven risk-off tape, the isotopes-and-materials rung leading losses, while Nvidia's classical-control layer was the lone anchor.
Nvidia (NVDA) was the only meaningful gainer in the quantum basket Monday, up 1.7% to $228.86, after the company added $150 billion to its buyback and reaffirmed long-run guidance of roughly 70% revenue growth through 2028. Within this vertical Nvidia maps to the classical co-processing, error-correction, and control-electronics (cryo-CMOS) rung — the conventional silicon that has to scale alongside any qubit platform. That the classical-control layer held while the pure-plays fell is the session's structural tell: capital rotated toward the incumbent compute balance sheet and away from pre-revenue quantum names in a risk-off tape.
The laggard was ASP Isotopes (ASPI), down 11.1% to $2.60 on the isotopes-and-quantum-materials and helium-3/cryogen-supply chokepoint. There was no company-specific catalyst on the day; this is a high-beta, development-stage isotope name, and the move was a repricing of speculative enrichment and specialist-materials stocks as the 10-year yield climbed to 5.24%, its highest since 2007. The read is positioning, not fundamentals — and its own near-term catalyst, first commercial silicon-28 shipments guided for Q3 2026, is imminent.
The broader tape was uniformly red across the platform and fabrication rungs. The pure-plays fell with the risk-off: Quantum Computing (QUBT) −4.4%, Rigetti (RGTI) −4.3%, D-Wave (QBTS) −3.6%, and IonQ (IONQ) −2.0%. The enabling-hardware rungs followed — Coherent (COHR) −4.5% on lasers and precision photonics, and Intel (INTC) −5.7% to $116.03 on the control-electronics/cryo-CMOS rung, dragged by the same chip-sector selloff tied to rising yields. Rising rates weigh disproportionately on long-duration, cash-consuming stories, which is precisely what most of this basket is.
The catalysts ahead are policy- and milestone-driven. Congressional floor action on the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act (H.R. 8462 / S. 3597) is the near-term federal-funding signal. ASP Isotopes' first commercial silicon-28 shipments are guided for Q3 2026 — the receipt that would validate the isotope-supply thesis. Further out, DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative Stage C down-select decisions land in December, and the Q2B26 Chicago industry conference runs December 8-10 — the next hard checkpoints for who clears the benchmarking gate.
