ASP Isotopes extended its silicon-28 restart run as the pure-play qubit names sold off against a risk-on tape.
ASP Isotopes (ASPI) led the vertical, up 7.8% to $2.91, extending a run on its silicon-28 enrichment restart: 18 stages of the Pretoria facility are back at target enrichment, with first commercial Si-28 shipments guided for Q3 2026 against three signed offtake agreements — a major US semiconductor company, a global industrial-gases firm, and a large US buyer. The move belongs to the isotopes-materials and helium-3-cryogens chokepoints rather than any qubit vendor: isotopically pure Si-28 is the low-spin-noise substrate feedstock that spin-qubit and advanced-semiconductor roadmaps depend on, an upstream materials bottleneck the field has few alternative sources for.
The laggard was D-Wave (QBTS), down 4.8% to $15.77, with the platforms rung selling off even as the broad tape rallied: Quantum Computing Inc (QUBT) -2.5%, Rigetti (RGTI) -2.4%, IBM -1.3%, and IonQ (IONQ) -0.5%. The pure-play qubit names remain the most sentiment- and rate-sensitive corner of the vertical — long-duration stories with little near-term commercial revenue — and they diverged from the semiconductor bid. The structural read: the enabling-hardware and materials rungs are derisking faster than the platforms that sit on top of them.
The enabling layers did the work. Lasers-photonics firmed with Coherent +5.6% to $337.04 and MKS Instruments +2.9% to $279.15. Control-electronics and classical-coprocessing were bid: Keysight +2.9% to $384.64, AMD +3.0% to $633.91, Nvidia +1.3% to $233.95. The qubit-fabrication rung saw GlobalFoundries +3.1% to $50.17 and Applied Materials +2.0% to $540.04, while the cryogens layer held with Linde +2.1% to $479.48 and Air Products +1.6%. Sumitomo Heavy's Tokyo line added about 1.5% on the cryocooler choke — firm, not spiking.
The next catalysts are federal and calendar-driven. The National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act (S.3597 / H.R.8462) is pending floor action, and the DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative's Stage B-to-Stage C down-select window opens across November–December — the key government validation signal for the platforms that led the selling today. Q2B26 Chicago (Dec 8–10) is the next industry venue. On the materials choke, ASPI's first commercial Si-28 shipments, guided for Q3 2026, are the near-term proof point the leader's move is pricing.
