The speculative quantum names were sold hard in a risk-off session — Infleqtion off 7.2% — while only Alphabet and Intel eked out gains among the enablers.

On a day the broad tape barely moved (the S&P eased roughly 0.6%), the quantum basket behaved like the high-beta book it is: the pure-play hardware names took the brunt while the few gainers were the diversified platforms. Alphabet (GOOGL) led, up 0.8% to $350.50, the Quantum AI/Willow owner carried by its megacap bid rather than anything qubit-specific, with Intel (INTC) +0.6% to $113.12 the only other name of size in the green. That two enablers topped the board, both by less than a point, is the story: there was no risk appetite for the speculative end of the stack.

The laggard was Infleqtion (INFQ), down 7.2% to $11.64, leading a broad derating of the listed qubit pure-plays — IonQ (IONQ) −4.5% to $41.34, Rigetti (RGTI) −3.8% to $14.59, D-Wave (QBTS) −3.6% to $15.22, Quantum Computing Inc. (QUBT) −3.1% to $7.62 and Arqit (ARQQ) −3.8% to $22.55. None of these carried company news; they moved as a factor, the pre-revenue, long-duration cohort that leads the tape down whenever risk comes off. The quantum thesis deliberately leans away from this cohort and toward the enabling-input chokepoints — lasers, optics, cryogenics, vacuum and metrology — and those held up comparatively better.

Even so, the enabler rungs were not immune. Silex Systems' US line (SILXY) fell 5.1% to $15.22 on the enrichment/isotope angle, and the photonics-and-laser rung softened with IPG Photonics (IPGP) −3.3% to $80.89 and MKS Inc. (MKSI) −2.9% to $273.15 — MKS sits on the Newport/Spectra-Physics optics and the vacuum subsystems that gate every dilution-refrigerator and ion-trap build. The test-and-measurement and deposition names were steadier: Keysight (KEYS) −1.7% to $381.42 and Applied Materials (AMAT) −1.8% to $520.65. The read-through is consistent with the broader session — the closer a name sits to real, shipping equipment revenue, the better it held.

The calendar is the reason to watch this cohort into year-end rather than through today's noise. The DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative moves from Stage B to its Stage C downselect over November, the single hardest government signal for which modalities and which enabling suppliers get funded through the next phase. Beyond that, Q2B26 Chicago (Dec 8–10) is where the commercial roadmaps and procurement intentions get aired, and Gooch & Housego's FY2026 results (Dec 8) give a clean read on photonic-component order books. Until then, the qubit names will keep trading as a risk proxy, and the optics/vacuum/metrology chokepoint is where the durable value sits.
